We reluctantly left Tours, with plans to return as soon as possible, and headed to Paris for the last hurrah of our European adventure. We haven’t visited Paris since we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here, oh so long ago. Why not do the same on our 25th?
We visited some old friends, and made some new acquaintances, at the Musée d’Orsay.

We went to St Germain des Prés church, which we’d somehow never seen before. It’s gorgeous!

We visited Notre Dame and marvelled at its incredible recovery. And I found I’ve become a stained glass snob, because we’ve seen nicer glass in other cathedrals… though those rose windows are something!

But mostly, we just walked the streets, looking in shop windows and enjoying the architecture and public spaces… for hours every day. It was great!
The day before our anniversary, snow started to fall in the afternoon, reminding us of our rehearsal dinner, which also had snow falling.

To celebrate on our anniversary, we went to the restaurant Colvert and had an excellent meal. The appetizers: poireaux vinaigrette (leeks vinaigrette, with shellfish and pork belly) and carpaccio de Saint Jacques (scallop carpaccio). We both had the duck entrée, with confited chestnuts and spelt risotto. (Spelt is the next big thing – it’s on every menu.)

For dessert, a profiterole for me, which didn’t look like much but was outstanding (the bitter chocolate sauce was so much better than the sweet stuff you usually get), and a tarte aux pralines roses, with green apples and sorrel ice cream (!), for M.

Now, sadly, we have to go home. But fortunately, we’re already planning our next visit … Au revoir!

Happy wedding anniversary!
Thank you very much for sharing your trip.
A bientôt !
