Christmas at Chenonceau

On Tuesday the château de Chenonceau stayed open after dark for their Noël celebration. The incredible decorations, beautifully-lit gardens and special performers (including a harpist and LED-adorned performers dancing to music outside) made it a magical evening.

We arrived early enough to see how it looked in the daylight, then headed inside as the sun set. The château is built over the river, because hey, why not? What could go wrong? (Actually, there was originally a bridge over the river to the main building. The addition on the bridge was added later.)

Chenonceau has a full-time team of floral designers (one of whom was giving a demo during our visit). They went all-out on the Christmas decor. It was gorgeous and over the top, with a few enigmatic compositions eliciting some head-scratching.

One that actually looks reproduceable at home!
These ‘trees’ are made of lichen. I can imagine doing this on a small scale at home…

Any of you feeling inspired to up your decorating game next year? Good luck!

Wow! My eyes and brain were overstimulated in there. We headed outside to finish up our visit with a gentler spectacle:

  1. We were waiting for Chenonceau all the week and now we are rewarded. We went in summer and in winter by night also ant we were amazed by the floral arrangements. It is such a magical place, thank you for your beautiful photos!
