We started to get excited as the mountains rose before us as we drove south from Regensburg. The corn fields and hops gave way to hay fields and pasture.


It only got better when we reached Oberstdorf, a town surrounded by mountains. Every where you look – more mountains.




And flowers! On the houses, on the businesses, on the sidewalks, along the roads…





Of course there’s a church in the center of town, full of carved wood figures. They seem more approachable than paintings…

Seriously, it sounds like you are having a great time. You are nearing Bad Aibling, my maternal grandfatherâs home town.

Good point. I’m currently reading La Carte Postale by Anne Berest, which is much more in line with the nightmare than the idyllic alpine village.
