This Cistercian abbey is just outside Narbonne, though you’d never guess it from the surroundings.

I can easily imagine a life of quiet contemplation in these surroundings…

We spent a long time in the church, which has beautiful stained glass… and great acoustics. The best part of the visit, by far, was the small private concert C, a trained singer, gave us. Another one of the benefits of off-season visiting – we had the church to ourselves so didn’t feel we were bothering anyone. (Although I can’t imagine anyone being bothered by C’s singing!)

In a small chapel to the side, there is even more modern stained glass.

Outside in the rose garden was a fountain that we both would like to have at home… something for the to-do list!
