Looking for beautiful old buildings? Contemporary art? Water views? Specimen trees? Find them all at the château de Chaumont-sur-Loire.
First, there’s the château itself, straight out of a fairy tale:
Inside, you find both rooms with historical furnishings (and Christmas decor at this time of year) and spaces devoted to contemporary art.
Some of the art was…enigmatic. Is the chapel decoration for Christmas or a more permanent artwork?
Some of the art was in unrestored attic rooms:
But the ones we liked best were computer generated.
Especially these fantastical flowers from alien planets, in an exhibit called Flora Incognita:
The art continues out on the park-like grounds. Nature’s art is represented , too – some of the trees are enormous. There is also a large perennial garden, but it was closed for the season. A good reason to come back!
