France is full of temptation. Most of it’s food – for me, at least. Everyone knows the baguettes and croissants, but there are so many other delicious things.

The local farmers’ markets have incredibly fresh fruits and vegetables

And there are so many things you can cook with such great ingredients – or, even easier, you can buy a tasty chicken already roasted. The chickens here don’t have the huge amount of breast meat that American roasters have been bred for, but they are far more flavorful.

To go with it, there’s the incredibly reasonably priced wine or, my favorite here in Brittany, cider.
And dessert… dessert! It’s always hard to choose at the pâtisserie.

But right now, the biggest temptation is a lot bigger than what to eat today: it’s the fixer-upper across the street. It has been empty since we first came here in 2019 and needs some serious TLC.

The roof is deteriorating, the brambles and ivy are running rampant, the outbuildings look even more ramshackle, but we can easily imagine it fixed up and comfortable – because it’s practically a twin of the house we’re staying in. We could come over for three months a year and enjoy the amazing scenery, hiking, and food of Finisterre. Heck, the owner of our gîte offered to manage the fixed-up outbuildings as rentals, offsetting some of the costs. Of course, we have no idea if the current owner would be willing to sell, how much it might cost to renovate, what French property laws are for foreigners, … but let’s not let such practical considerations get in the way of our current dreams!
Just imagine the gardens you could create! You know the rule… second home second tractor.😀.
