The interesting public art kept coming. Not really sure what the inspiration for this fountain in Friedrichshafen was – steam punk? shipwrecks? – but it’s cool!

I wished I could fit some of the garden ornaments in my luggage…

From Friedrichshafen we biked to Lindau, which has a very scenic old town and harbor.

We spent the night in Bregenz, Austria. The next day was a miserably cold, rainy and windy ride to Arbon, Switzerland – even M, the picture-taking madman, wasn’t inspired to take any photos. At one point we stopped for a bathroom break and I was able to wring a bunch of water out of my ankle socks. If we do this again, we’re buying shoe covers!
Our hotel in Arbon was an antique half-timbered house, with a lot of character. After thawing out (hauling the luggage up two flights of stairs certainly helped), we enjoyed a delicious dinner in their restaurant.

The next day we explored the town before heading out on the last leg of our trip. Arbon is charming – full of well-kept half-timbered houses and with a nice harbor and a view of the Alps.

On the way back to Constance the forecast rain thankfully didn’t materialize, so still more photos were taken!

We really enjoyed seeing so many new sights on this bike trip, but we wished we had a little more time in each town. We also didn’t enjoy having to get our luggage downstairs by 9am every morning. I think my ideal bike trip would be two nights in each hotel. That would give us plenty of time to explore the town and the surrounding area – and to write the blog!
